In order to inspire and empower people to enjoy nature’s benefits and get to grips with the best ways to improve their local environment, we’ve launched the Community Forum – a knowledge and idea-sharing event around nature, our health and wellbeing and community
The Community Forum is centred on giving campaign supporters a platform to freely discuss their views, share success stories and explore the many ways that nature can benefit you, your community and our society as a whole.
Our first Community Forum was held in Buxton, Derbyshire
The event, keeping in line with Get Better with Nature principles, was open to all campaign and community members and offered a unique chance to hear from leading experts how the natural environment could help improve physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Speakers at our most recent Community Forum spanned the conservation, academia and business spheres including: Rob Fitzsimmons, Head of Development at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust; Professor Paul Gately– Professor of Exercise and Obesity at Leeds Metropolitan University; Jan Flamank, Wild at Heart Coordinator at Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust and Inder Poonaji, Head of Sustainability at Nestlé
We hope the Community Forum programme will spur dialogue and debate between community members and inspire them to make their own contribution literally and figuratively in their own backyard. Our first Community Forum proved successful with almost two thirds of attendants reporting they had an improved understanding of the benefits and value of nature following the event.
